Sameul Jacobus de Beer

Sameul married Elizabeth Magdalena van Staden on 6 Mar 1785 in Tulbagh. Elizabeth (daughter of Jacobus Frederik van Staden and Isabella Elisabeth de Jager) was born before 12 Oct 1766. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

1. Jacobus Frederick de Beer was born on 31 Oct 1802 in Kromrivier, Beaufort-West; died on 22 Mar 1855 in Bosfontein, Beaufort-West District.

Notes:

Farmed on farm of Jan Beukes near Stellenbosch. Left Stellenbosch area in 1756 and obtained grazing rights in Hattingskloof, Roggeveld. Later farmed in Prins Albert area on the "Swartrivier" opposite the Leeuwenrivier. Still later settled on farm Buffelsvallei, Winterberg, where he died.

Matthys married Maria van Eeden before 1759. Maria (daughter of Frederik van Eeden and Hendrina Stevens) was born before 20 Nov 1729. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Notes:

Arrived in South Africa in 1698 and was a soldier until land was allocated to him in 1703. Before his marriage to Helletje Smit, he had a daughter, Geertruy, by Maria van de Caab. According to the Stellenbosch register, Geertruy was christened on 8/11/1705.

Matthys Andries had five sons and four daughters with Helletje Smit. Three of his children died young, of which two died during the small pox epidemic of 1713. Three sons survived and they are the progenitors of the three main de Beer branches.

Matthys Andries de BEER, came from Wasa and it expected that the place is called till today Vaasa. Those days it was in Switzerland but today it is in Finland.

Matthys Andries de Beer had a child with Maria van die KAAP, this daughter was baptised Geertruy at Stellenbosch 8 November 1705.

Notes:

Jan SMIT arrived in South Africa in 1688 from Maastricht, Netherlands. He was a burger at Stellenbosch. Jan married Adriana TOL from Delft. On 11 January 1705 Adriana married Andries KUYPER who was from Stettin.

Notes:

Arrived in 1662 as "onderscheepskorporaal" and later "smid". Became a Burgher of Stellenbosch in 1688. He hired Bastiaan Caevel to teach his children and was deacon of the Cape Town Church from 1700 - 1701.
In 1671 he married his first wife, Lysbeth Jansz from Amsterdam. In 1677 he returned to the Netherlands with her because of her misuse of alcohol in which he joined her. They returned to the Cape in 1682 but he divorced her in May 1684 on the grounds of adultry. In December of the same year, she was sent to a punitive institution for women in Batavia as a result of her "loose life"
He married Marria Russaar from Blois, France on 13/7/1688 and they had 9 children.
