    Ek kan nie teenwoordig wees op hierdie belangrikke dag vir ons familie en vriende nie maar wil graag die voorheg h? om ?n paar woorde te s?.
    Hoe ek Pa geken het en gaan onthou, is dat hy ?n baie volle en merkwaardige lewe gevoer het. Binne sy limiete het hy ?n baie wye veld van belangstelling getoon vanaf sy jong lewe tot op sy laaste dae.
    Nietemin, daar was baie dinge van hom wat ek nie geweet het nie maar een ding was seker, sy positiewe en gelukkige houding teenoor die lewe het van hom ?n wonderlikke mens gemaak om te ken. Hy was geduldig, en toegewend met tyd en liefde vir sy familie en medemens. Hy het altyd ?n belangstelling getoon met mense wat hy ontmoet het en was altyd angstig om nuwe mense te ontmoet. Om kwaad te wees was nou maar net nie deel van sy karakter nie. Die baie min kere wat hy kwaad probeer wees, was ooglopend net ?n skyn. Hy was ook baie filosofies teenoor sy benadering oor die lewe en hy kon alles in perspektief sien. Siende dat hy onlangs vir my verskeie kere vertel het dat hy ?n volle lewe gehad het en dat hy dankbaar is dat hy die vooreg het om op geleende tyd nog te lewe.
    Sy omgee en sorg vir sy familie en mede mens het altyd na vore gekom deur sy emosies. So gereeld het hy die las van pyn op homself geneem om sy familie te beskerm teen enige kommer. Dit was duidelik beklemtoon gedurende ons gesprekke die laaste maande van sy lewe.
    Ek onthou en admireer hom as ?n kind dat hy elke oggend dou voor dag kon opstaan, aantrek, ontbyt eet en werk toe gaan sonder om ooit te kla. Vir ?n lang tydperk van my lewe was dit vir ses dae ?n week. Ek kan nie onthou dat hy ooit ?n dag afgevat het as gevolg van siekte nie.
    Hy was tog so lief om op naweke vir ons ontbyt te maak, te gaan sport speel, die koerant te lees en dan met sy gunsteling boek in die son te gaan rus. Hy het ons op Sondae oggende gereed gemaak vir katkisasie en kerk, waar ek in hierdie einste gemeenskap van Alberton Wes in 1979 gekatkiseer het.
    Alhoewel hy dit nooit hardop ges? het nie weet ek hy was trots op ons kinders en iniglik lief vir Ma.
    Ten einde is dit moeilik om enige persoon volledig met woorde te beskryf, maar vir my was hy hardwerkend, liefdevol en sag en ?n engel, wat op aarde geleef het. Ek is jammer hy kan nie veraltyd by ons wees nie maar dit is nie iets wat hy sou wou gehad het nie. ?n Mens kan ?n roos wees wat groei, blom en dan uiteindelik sterwe, of ?n mens kan ?n plastiese roos wees wat nooit lewe en nooit sterwe nie. Ek is dankbaar dat iemand soos Pa op aarde was en sy lewe met ons gedeel het sodat ons van hom kon leer.
