    Newspaper clipping: Potchefstroom, 6 January 1936 states that Mr Samuel Jacobus de Beer met his end in tragic circumstances after months of poor health. He was headmaster at the De Beer's School in Welverdiend and was on sick leave after a "nervous breakdown". His condition, however did not improve and his family was extremely worried about his condition. On the morning of his death, after a search, his body was found in a plantation nearby, with a double barreled gun next to him and a fatal wound to the head. A suicide note to his wife was found next to him. He was 55 years old and left a wife and two daughters (all teachers). (His two sons and youngest daughter are not mentioned in the notice)
